Nowadays, health is an issue that matters to all of us. Everyday life has become a fast pace of living. The most important thing now, is the achievement of career goals in detriment of affecting a healthy standard of living. So our ideal weight is a question frequently asked.

Not only has food lost nutrients and benefits in the industrial process, but our lifestyle has changed. Now we have fast, low-cost means of transportation that help us get around, although it has been very good for technological development and progress as humanity, we are becoming more and more sedentary.

Our jobs are no longer plowing the land, hunting or harvesting (physical jobs) now they are in front of a screen generating results at a great speed. That’s why we have this article on what is my ideal weight.

Modern life is not bad at all, but we must adapt to it in the best way to always take care of our health and take advantage of all the benefits of the current speed of life and not the other way around.

The WHO (World Health Organization) in its latest report has published the increase in obesity in the world population. The WHO comments that by 2016 more than 1.9 billion adults were overweight and 650 million adults were obese.

Why is it important to be within healthy weight limits?

Obesity is the excessive accumulation of fat in the body, but mainly in the stomach. This as such, affects not only the mobility of our body, it also triggers and generates many problems in our health, that over time become more difficult to cure. As a result of being overweight, diseases such as: diabetes, hypertension, joint pain, heart failure, kidney failure, and many other serious diseases can be unleashed.

For this reason, it is important to have a healthy life allowing the body to constantly have a healthy balance.

What are the ideal weight limits?

So we ask ourselves, what are the healthy limits of my body? It is an excellent question, since all bodies are unique and therefore each one must hear, see and read their body more and more accurately. According to the WHO, “Overweight and obesity are defined as an abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat that presents a risk to health. A body mass index (BMI) greater than 25 is considered overweight and greater than 30, obesity. ()

To calculate the body mass index (BMI) in adults, «It is calculated by dividing a person’s weight in kilos by the square of their height in meters (kg/m2).» Or simply by entering your weight and height data into this Body Mass Index calculator from the United States CDC Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

It is important to keep in mind that these results are not completely accurate, for complete accuracy you can access a DEX or DEXA test at your medical center.

Now comes my suggestions for a more active, healthy and happy life. Remember that these are only tips, you should always follow the recommendations of your GP.

    Healthy Tips

    • Drink liquids.
      • Water is the best but being hydrated can be also from fruits and veggies, soups etc.
    • Daily Activity.
      • Start with small steps, if exercise is not your thing.
      • Try to park your car far from the store next time so you make yourself walk a bit more.
      • Walk your dog more often, if you don´t have one, volunteer to walk your neighbors dog.
      • Sign up for a class at a gym. If you find it boring bring a friend for support.
      • Find a motivation goal to get daily activity, like: «i want to fit in my old jeans again» or «i want to have more energy for my kids» or «i want to do a competitive sport» find your own motivation, and remember it!
    • Keep your mind at ease. If your don´t meditate try any of these:
      • Take a minute a day and breath slowly 7 times.
      • Pick 3 different objects that are around your and name 3 aspects that your see like color, light, texture.
      • Pay attention to your body. Put a 5 minute timer and with your eyes closed tag anything that you feel in your body. Example: headache, itch, tiredness, happiness, tingle on my feet and so on, you get the picture.

To finish, it is important to understand that our body is the most important thing we have right now. Not only because of how it looks, but mainly how it feels and its health indices. Therefore, stop to feel your body. Take a few minutes each day to determine if your body feels tired, energetic, achy, light, etc. From your findings, you can begin to take action on how you would like to feel in the future. This will help you better determine the health of your body more than a number on a scale.

If you feel that you are overweight, there are many ways to reach your ideal weight, but remember to do it with love for yourself. Weight today is associated with our self-esteem, rather than our health. The ideal weight for your body and for you, is one where you are not putting your health at risk, and you feel totally comfortable and free to be YOU. If you want to lose weight, have fun doing it, do not make it a torture, because you will not achieve your goal, but you will get frustrated very quickly if you do not achieve it.

In Korevo we have free dance classes that you can do whenever you want. This will allow you to have fun, exercise and learn new dance steps.
